To be formed by Scripture means we allow it to show us where we’re walking in darkness and confront the hidden sins we try to keep from God.

Scripture confronts us by showing where we tend to find delight in other places, and invites us to see Scripture as a means to commune with the ultimate source of satisfaction, God Himself.

Scripture as a Sword means that for every dart the devil throws and every wilderness you walk through, God has already placed the right word in your hand and you just have to learn to wield it.

The most impactful ways to engage with Scripture are through routine daily encounters and moments of reading that change us over the long haul.

We must learn to use Scripture to confront our beliefs about the world, ourselves, and God rather than to point out the faults and sins in others.

Jesus is the ultimate revealed Word of God. He’s the One the Scripture points to, and our capacity to understand the Bible depends on our ability to see and understand Jesus.
